Evolution of a Bedroom

The time has come. I'm getting super bored with our master bedroom. Above is the space before we even moved in. The previous owner can totally take credit for the matching bedspread-curtains combo. We get kudos for our patchwork quilt and really awful tied curtains.

(What were we thinking???)

I remember being so proud of this look when we moved in. And now it makes me cringe. Has this ever happened to you?

A few months passed. And we wanted a new look. A couple coats of grey no-VOC paint (that was like five shades lighter than we thought it'd be), and new spread, and a few yellow throw pillows later, here's where we found ourselves sleeping at night:

Then we discovered Young House Love (or at that time, This Young House). I loved the way they draped curtains in their bedroom to create a light, airy -- yet dramatic effect. So, like many others, we copied them.

But we still haven't mastered it. (Get it? Get it???) And you'll all just have to wait and see what we decide to do. Even I don't know at this point. It's all going down this weekend, though. Bright wall color? Bold bedspread pattern? New hanging wall treatment? Really, we're not sure. But it's boring. And blah. And oh-so plain-Jane.

We need to spice it up. NOW!

What about room design evolution in your house? Do you have any photos that make you want to hurl? It's almost as bad as looking at an old photo of yourself, really. Like back when I was blonde and Stephen got $10 haircuts. We're only sharing because we know you love us:

PS: Don't forget to add yourself to this month's BLOG LOVE FEST!

When I saw that picture pop up in my Flickr queue I was like.."who is that blonde with Stephen of neverhomemaker?" Threw me for a loop until I clicked.

We live in a rental house. I have blinds...yes BLINDS and one of them is discolored (going to fix that tonight if it kills me), I wouldn't hate on yourself until you saw my place. It's hard to make the most of something you can't really alter.

I can't wait to see what you do! (Of course, it doesn't look half bad just the way it is...but change is always fun and good!)

Bedrooms are impossible. I am still waiting for the day when we actually get a working dresser for me, and a second nightstand for the bf. Currently all of his junk is stacked on a dining room table, just waiting for Abbey Cat to jump up and topple everything over.
Home improvements never end!

haha. Yes, Jessica. It's just silly me! We had blinds (vertical) when we moved in to our place. Yuck. :)

Erin -- thanks! I can't wait either. I'm going to take some inspiration from you and try to do it on the dime like your gorgeous bathroom makeover!!!

Amie -- We only recently got a dresser (not pictured). I have so many clothes, and they were everywhere! And our cats (PS Abbey Cat is super cute!) broke the vase with the flowery things in it. And then destroyed the flowery things when we put them in a new vase. Just can't win! Good luck...

I LOVE what you've done to your master bedroom! I was just thinking today I'm sick of mine already, and we've only been in our house 1 1/2 years haha.

Yah, I hear ya. We went through this phase in our room too! We put the bed on an angle in a corner and really liked how that changed up the feel of the room...! I look forward to seeing what you do. :)

I have to rearrange a room every few months...it's a sickness really. The evolution of the bedroom (and your hair) is fun to see. The bedroom looks great now (so does your hair...though I admit, I like the blonde look too).

I hate my bedroom too... definitely time for a makeover of the bedroom, and whole house actually for that matter. But my husband has a bad arm, I can't paint for squat and painters are too expensive so I am hoping my son and daughter-in-law have some time this spring to help us out....They have both definitely mastered the art of painting and decorating... and I need them desperately, but in the meantime, neverhomemaker has served as a great inspiration for both ideas and motivation. Keep up the good work!!!

It's looking really cute! When my husband I and I moved into our condo we painted the bedroom what I thought was a light slate blue. Turns out it looks like we live in a baby boy's room.

How fun! If I did a 360 degree turn in our home, I would find at least 10 things that need updating or at least touching up. With three children under foot and paid work to do, updating rarely gets attended to. Stop by the library and see if they have some good design books. I found bunches of them when we renovated our kitchen. Also, I love remodelista.com and dwell.com for wed-based ideas.
